Today’s soundtrack selection goes to:
‘Put A Little Love In Your Heart’ – Annie Lennox & Al Green
Film: Scrooged
What’s your favourite Christmas song to feature in a movie?
Well mine happens to be ‘Put A Little Love In Your Heart’ by Annie Lennox and Al Green. With a great uplifting, optimistic and positive message, it serves as a great accompaniment to Scrooged. Christmas films always have that guilty pleasure quality about them and Scrooged is no different. The modern-day re-telling of A Christmas Carol in reality shouldn’t work. A Christmas Carol has always been a dramatic piece but in the hands of Bill Murray and his deadpan humour, it becomes an instant and memorable classic. I watch it every year without fail.
Is the song a little cheesy? Yes but who cares! For a song that was originally sang by Jackie DeShannon in 1969, it’s becomes a perfect fit for Christmas. Lennox and Green follow the template of the film by bringing it up to date and it works surprisingly well as a duet.
‘Put A Little Love In Your Heart’ is designed to put you in a good mood. Nothing more. Nothing less. Sit back, relax and let two legendary singers in the music world spread the festive joy.
